A record number of graduates at the Pilot Academy
This autumn marks a historic milestone for the Pilot Academy as it celebrates the largest graduation class in its history and the arrival of a new group of future aviators. In total, 33 students have just completed their studies and received their Commercial Pilot Licenses, while 17 new cadets from Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, France, and Germany have begun their training. With 158 active students and more than 160 graduates now flying for airBaltic, including several captains, the academy continues to grow as one of the most successful pilot training institutions in Europe.
Vilmantas Vaclovas Mažonas, the CEO of airBaltic Training, said: ‘We are proud to congratulate the latest graduates of the Pilot Academy. Each of them represents not only personal dedication and achievement but also the next generation of aviation professionals shaping the future of airBaltic and the broader industry.’
Among the graduates is Anželika Glaudāne, who is now completing her Airbus A220-300 Type Rating. ‘I’m very pleased and happy to have completed this long journey,’ she says. ‘The supportive atmosphere at the academy has now transferred to the company – everyone is ready to help and support us. That spirit helped me a lot during my training and continues now.’
She fondly remembers her time as a student: ‘We often spent time in briefing rooms talking about different topics and sharing experiences. I’ll never forget flying over my home, waving to my family, and seeing Rundāle Castle from above – it’s a special opportunity for those of us from Latvia.’
Now preparing to fly the Airbus A220-300, Glaudāne notes: ‘The discipline and rhythm of the academy helps me a lot now – everything feels easier to manage. I’m really looking forward to finally starting my job as a pilot. I want to fly as soon as possible and do what I’ve been working toward for so long.’
Glaudāne encourages others to follow in her footsteps and says people need to forget the old stereotypes, because this profession is most certainly open to women – if you’re interested, come and see what it’s all about!
