airBaltic Pilot Academy Open Days – discover more about your dream
Having taken place every month for several years already, these Pilot Academy open days have become a key tradition. Almost half of all students attend this event before starting their studies.
Each Open Day features a detailed presentation and an engaging Q&A session led by an instructor or graduate of the academy. The online format offers the flexibility to join from anywhere in the world, while the on-site events in Riga provide a unique hands-on experience. Visitors can explore the modern airBaltic Training Centre, which is where theoretical lessons take place, meet students and instructors, see the Airbus A220-300 full-flight simulators, take part in a quiz based on real admission questions, and even try flying a Diamond DA40/42 simulator.
For many, the experience becomes a decisive moment. ‘For me, the Open Day felt like putting candy in front of a child’s eyes,’ recalls Miks Miškins from Latvia, now an academy student. ‘I was amazed by the atmosphere – everyone shared the same dream. Talking to instructors and fellow participants took away my worries. Trying the simulators helped me truly envision myself as a future airBaltic pilot.’
Tim Kremers from the Netherlands attended both online and on-site Open Days before joining the academy. ‘The event was organised very professionally and confirmed that this was a perfect place to study,’ he shares. ‘After the Open Day, some students even invited me to visit the flying base in Liepāja the next day, which is where I saw the modern training aircraft up close. Exactly one year later, I had my first solo flight in a DA40NG – a memory for life.’
For Radvilė Tručionytė from Lithuania, the journey began with a simple bus ride from Kaunas to Riga. She attended the airBaltic Pilot Academy Open Day on July 1, 2022, and began training in February of the following year. ‘The event gave me a sneak peek into the studies, and the opportunity to meet the instructors and try out the Diamond flight simulator. It really motivated me to apply,’ she says.
Whether online or in person, airBaltic Pilot Academy Open Days offer more than just information – they provide inspiration. Details about upcoming events are always shared on the Pilot Academy’s social media accounts and on the airBaltic Training website. Open Days usually take place on the first Friday of each month. Join the next session and take the first step towards your career in aviation!
