We are hiring: Airbus A220-300 Type Engineer
Progress in modern travel comes from human creativity and innovation, with the aviation industry constantly pushing the boundaries of technology. At the heart of this are aircraft engineers – the often unseen but essential experts who keep aircraft in excellent condition. Their knowledge ensures planes are reliable for safe flights and comply with strict regulations. Their work combines technical skills, careful planning, and teamwork with various departments.
So, what do aircraft engineers actually do? While much of their work happens behind the scenes, engineers are far from working alone. They are key members of a larger team, working closely with the maintenance, operations, safety, and quality departments to address every aspect of aircraft performance.
‘Our team consists of highly skilled professionals who support and help each other to achieve the best results,’ says Mareks Liepiņš, a Type Engineer at airBaltic. He notes that strong knowledge of aeronautical engineering and attention to detail are essential for aircraft engineers. ‘Contrary to popular belief, our work isn’t just theoretical; it also involves a lot of hands-on tasks, inspections, on-site support to technicians, and participation in maintenance check flights as task specialists.’
Engineers must be skilled in reading technical manuals, solving complex issues, and staying up to date with manufacturers and suppliers. They also analyse data and reports to improve aircraft performance. ‘We manage nearly every aspect of Airbus A220-300 maintenance at the company, and honestly, my time here has been the highlight of my aviation career,’ Liepiņš says and emphasises that, while the job is challenging, it offers countless opportunities for growth.
